“You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” – Jim Rohn
I was just at an event this weekend.
We had an incredible group—high-level investors, operators, and people who are seriously playing the game at a different level.
And every time I walk into a room like that, I’m reminded of something powerful.
Your life can change way faster than you think.
Not in 10 years.
Not in someday.
But in months.
I’ve seen people quit jobs.
Fire themselves.
Retire their spouse.
Completely transform their health, relationships, and finances.
And it almost always comes down to three things.
Let’s break them down.
1. Get in the Right Rooms
If you want a different life, you need a different environment.
That’s just the truth.
You cannot expect to 20x your net worth while staying in the same conversations, the same habits, and the same circles.
It doesn’t work.
It’s been said you’re the average of the five people you spend the most time with.
So if the people around you are not growing, not investing, not pushing themselves—you won’t either.
That’s why I always say: pay to be in the right rooms.
People hesitate on this.
They think it’s expensive.
But staying stuck is way more expensive.
Mastermind environments have actually been shown to provide psychological support, problem-solving, and accountability that accelerate growth.¹
That’s why being intentional about your environment matters so much.
I’ve personally seen the biggest breakthroughs come from proximity.
You hear what people are doing.
You see what’s working right now.
You realize what’s possible.
And suddenly, your standards change.
This is exactly why I created the Wealth Forum.
It’s a room where people are serious about building wealth together.
Because once you change the room, you change the trajectory.
2. Stay Curious (Don’t Be the Know-It-All)
The fastest way to stay stuck is to think you already know everything.
I see this all the time.
People walk into rooms trying to impress instead of learn.
That’s backwards.
The people who grow the fastest are the most curious people in the room.
They ask questions.
They lean in.
They want to understand what’s actually working today.
Because what worked five years ago might not work now.
Markets shift.
Opportunities evolve.
Strategies change.
Curiosity keeps you adaptable.
And adaptability is where growth lives.
There’s actually research from the Journal of Experimental Psychology showing that specific, intentional learning improves focus, effort, and long-term results.²
That’s what curiosity does.
It sharpens your thinking.
It expands your awareness.
It opens doors you didn’t even know existed.
I’ve experienced this firsthand in my own journey building passive income through multifamily.
Every level required new thinking.
New questions.
New perspectives.
And the moment you stop being curious is the moment you stop growing.
So walk into every room thinking:
“What can I learn here?”
Not:
“What can I prove?”
That one shift changes everything.
3. Add Value First (This Is the Game-Changer)
This is the one most people miss.
They think networking is handing out business cards.
Shaking hands.
Trying to get something.
That’s not networking.
That’s self-promotion.
And honestly, it turns people off.
Real networking is about value.
It’s about asking:
“How can I help this person?”
“Who can I introduce them to?”
“What resource can I share?”
“What opportunity can I bring them?”
Because here’s the truth.
People will be loyal to you in direct proportion to the value you bring into their life.
If someone experiences real transformation because of you, they don’t forget that.
They bring you into their world.
They open doors for you.
They advocate for you.
This is how real networks are built.
Not transactionally.
But relationally.
This aligns with principles from books like The Compound Effect, where small, consistent actions—like adding value—create exponential long-term returns.³
And I’ve seen this play out over and over again.
The people who win long-term are the ones who give the most.
Not in a fake way.
But in a genuine, thoughtful way.
They show up looking to serve.
And because of that, opportunities flow back to them.
That’s how you build influence.
That’s how you build wealth.
That’s how you build a life that actually matters.
If this resonated with you, I want to hear from you.
What rooms are you getting into right now?
How are you growing?
